Each year the Department of Mathematics awards two scholarships to students who will be majoring in mathematics at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
The Shearouse Scholarship for entering freshman: Awarded to a freshman with an excellent high school academic record and who plans to major in mathematics. Each year the Department of Mathematics awards scholarships to students who plan to attend Armstrong Atlantic State University and intend to major in mathematics. These scholarships include two levels of support.
Honor Scholarship: A one year scholarship totaling $2600 given in installments of $1300 per semester. This award covers campus housing costs for one year.
Star Scholarship: A four year scholarship totaling $2800 given in installments of $350 per semester.
Scholarships will be awarded annually to entering freshmen student who best meet the following criteria.
- Has a good scholastic high school record.
- Has good academic potential in mathematics.
- Will be a full time student at AASU and majoring in Mathematics.
- Has a class standing in the top 10% of their class.
- Has a combined SAT score of at least 1200.
You are encouraged to apply for this scholarship even if you do not satisfy all of the above criteria.
Freshman Scholarship Application
The Lancy C Jen Scholarship for continuing college students: Awarded to a student whose class standing is at least of sophomore level, is a mathematics major and who has a good collegiate academic record in mathematics.
Lancy C. Jen was a native of Shanghai, China, and was active in the Savannah community from 1973 until her death in 2000. She taught mathematics in several local educational institutions, and had an interest in encouraging talented students to continue and prosper in their study of mathematics. She had special concern for international students pursuing studies in the United States. This scholarship was established in 1997, and is in honor of her father, Pei Ling Chan.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who best meets the following criteria.
- Has a good collegiate scholastic record.
- Has good academic potential in mathematics.
- Is a full time student at Armstrong and majoring in Mathematics.
- Has a class standing at least of sophomore level.
- Is an international student.
- Is a financially needy student.
You are encouraged to apply for this scholarship even if you do not satisfy all of the above criteria. During the years in which the scholarship has been awarded, it has been rare that a recipient has satisfied all criteria.
